Scientists have discovered a remarkable natural material derived entirely from organic by-products. Called ‘Genuine Leather,’ it originates from cattle hides, primarily surplus from food production industries. This incredible new material transforms waste into a resource, embodying the principles of a circular economy by turning what would otherwise be discarded into something durable, practical, and aesthetically appealing.
Genuine Leather is uniquely biodegradable, capable of decomposing naturally at the end of its life cycle. Its strength and durability promise longevity, significantly reducing the frequency with which products made from it need to be replaced. This makes it a sustainable and responsible option, aligning closely with the environmental goals of reducing waste and lowering carbon footprints.
Material 2: Synthetic Innovation
On the other side, we have a revolutionary synthetic creation: ‘Vegan Leather.’ Made primarily from polyurethane (PU) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics derived from fossil fuels, this material mimics the look and feel of natural leather without the use of animal products.
However, despite its innovative appearance, Vegan Leather is fundamentally non-biodegradable and contributes to environmental pollution. Around 80% of its composition consists of petroleum-based plastics, and the production process involves significant energy use and the release of harmful chemicals into the environment. Unlike Genuine Leather, Vegan Leather follows a linear economy model: extraction, production, use, disposal, leading inevitably to waste and pollution.

Genuine Leather, by contrast, transforms waste into valuable products, decomposes naturally, and contributes positively to the circular economy.
Considering these factors, Genuine Leather clearly emerges as the superior sustainable choice.
